This morning we had a lazy time at the campsite just lounging, but then we felt a need to do some exercise so headed off towards Pego to see the Tourist Info Centre and then go for a bike ride in he wetlands. We got ripped off by a Spanish woman selling citrus fruit on the side of the road, though her stall was pretty, I think she spotted the gringo coming......
After we had been to Pego we kept going up through the hills, retracing our steps from the day we went biking up there, but continuing around a country-side circuit through huge hills and valleys. We saw another snake slithering across the road, very long and skinny, and probably beautiful if you can stop the goosebumps that creep up your neck on sight.

Information board about ice-cave |
built by the Moors and filled by the sack load of ice from natural snow falls to see them through the warmer months. There is a ruined Moorish village across the road, it was abandonned or more to the point the Moors were expelled in the 1600s and the village left to degenerate, it is very hostile looking country, dry and barren, obviously snow covered in winter and not much but sun in summer. Very arid, but beautiful nevertheless.

We drove on to our next planned stop which was a limestone cave discovered in he 1920s by the local farmer who watched his dog (or ferret) depending on which story you read) disappear down a hole and seemingly disappear. They were taken over by the local council/DOC people and opened to the public in the 1990s. They are absolutely fantastic!!!! No photos allowed so I had to cheat by taking photos of the bill board outside and downloading some photos from google!! Not as impressive as the real thing, by a long shot.
