We arrived here on the Costa Blanca on Friday 16th September after a direct and hassle free drive from Valencia. About an hour and a half if I recall, but we have been so busy since then I can't quite remember. We weren't sure how long we would stay, but 5 days later we are still here. The weather is certainly becoming autumnal, evenings quite cool, less than 20, it seems amazing considering how hot it was just a few days ago. It gets dark much earlier too, it's 8.30 now and getting quite dark already, in fact the lights are glowing very brightly.
Our first day we were here quite early by mid morning so we just settled in, walked 50 metres across the road and down a sandy path to the sea. The water is the same beautiful blues and turquoise, the sand not as golden, more a pale fawn, the sun very hot and glarey. The water is possibly a degree or two cooler than just up the coast at Peniscola, but still warmer than anything I have experienced in NZ, apart from the hot pools at Hanmer or Lake Tekapo or my bath. Later in the day Hilary and i hopped on our bikes and went for an exploratory ride. We ended up just down the road at El Verger (about 2kms away). We went to the supermarket and got a couple of items and had a look around a little of the town. (Not very exciting).

The next day (Saturday) I went for a 25km bike ride into Denia and back. Pretty easy going, flat all the way, cycle track, not a lot of traffic, and apart from being hot and sticky and saddle sore due to the very crappy seat on my bike, felt great on my return.
I popped into the information centre while there, got a couple of good brochures, one about day trips by vehicle and one about local walks on "the mountain" which is at the back of Denia, a huge sandstone lump called Mont Negro where there is a Naturel Parc. I also had a quick ride around part of the old town, but nothing grabbed me enough to prolong my visit.

In the afternoon we hung around the campervan keeping cool before spending a couple of hours at the beach.
We had home made tapas and lashings of sangria for dinner, sitting out in the sun at our very quiet camping site.
